About Us

Brain Health and Wellness Lab is a research lab that focuses on Brain Research. Our team of researchers has a passion for understanding the human brain and its functions. We use state-of-the-art technology to conduct our studies and analyze the data. Our goal is to provide easy-to-understand information to help everyone maximize their brain health. 

Our lab was founded by Dr. Holly Bardutz, a researcher with a passion for uncovering the secrets of the brain. Dr. Bardutz has assembled a team of talented researchers who share her vision and work tirelessly to make it a reality. Together, we are committed to pushing the boundaries of scientific knowledge and changing the world for the better.

Meet Our Team

Our team is made up of some of the brightest minds at the University of Regina and other parts of Canada. Each member brings unique skills and perspectives to our work, and we are proud to have them on our team. Get to know a little bit about each of our team members below:

Principal Investigator

Dr. Holly Bardutz

Lab Director

Holly Bardutz, PhD, is the founding director of the Brain Health and Wellness Lab.  Her main areas of research include Brain Health and Wellness in various populations, including topics such as the Default Mode Network, the relationship between the brain and the heart, and the relationship between the brain and sleep. Dr. Bardutz is currently working as the Principal Investigator on her own research projects as well as collaborating with colleagues at the University of Regina, the University of Saskatchewan, the Saskatchewan Health Association, and McGill University.

 

Dr. Bardutz has designed and copyrighted an eight-week Brain Health and Fitness Course based on the latest research about the brain. She currently teaches the course and has integrated these classes into her research program.

 

Dr. Bardutz also teaches Linguistics; many of her students are interested in Speech Pathology and related careers. She loves the brain, linguistics, and teaching the overlap of the two fields in courses such as Neurolinguistics and First Language Acquisition.

Zain Khan

Research Assistant

Zain graduated from the University of Regina in June 2023 with a Bachelor of Kinesiology, majoring in Human Kinetics. He is currently working at the University of Regina as a research assistant for Holly.

Alison

Research Assistant

Alison completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Regina with a major in Psychology. She worked in healthcare for over 10 years and has been a brain-body fitness instructor for over 5 years. She assists Holly in teaching a Brain Health and Fitness course to the public.

Kameron Witte

Research Assistant

Kameron graduated from the University of Regina in December of 2022 majoring in Linguistics, with a minor in Psychology and Music. She is working to pursue a career in Speech Language Pathology and aspires to find a way to incorporate her love of music in her future work.

Hanna Ha 

Research Assistant

Hanna graduated from the University of Regina in April 2020 with a Bachelor of Kinesiology, majoring in Human Kinetics. She currently assists Holly with her Brain Health classes while working to pursue a career in Speech Language Pathology.

Jyotpal Singh, PhD

Research Assistant

Jyotpal graduated from the University of Regina with a PhD in physiology from Kinesiology and Health Studies. Currently, he is a PostDoctoral Fellow at the University of Regina and Researcher at the Saskatchewan Healthy Authority. 

Research Assistant

Abdullah graduated from the University of Regina in June 2023 with a Bachelor of Kinesiology, majoring in Human Kinetics. Currently, he is a student at the University of Saskatchewan's College of Medicine.

Carrissa Vance

Research Assistant

Carissa completed her undergraduate program with a major in Linguistics and a minor in Psychology at the University of Regina in May, 2022. Carissa is currently completing a Master’s program in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Alberta.
